Taking flight..

A breathe of fresh air in my life this morning, this little fellow has just left the nest and was taking short flights down to my bench, up to the arm rest, then the back and up into the tree, hope he makes it. His mother swooped down at my a dozen times, I am sure she hit my hair a few times, she was ticked!!
As some of you may have heard on the news, Northern Ontario, Timmins and Kirkland Lake have a major
problem with forest fires at the moment. We have one huge one, south of us, 30 km. appr, from town, but so many camps and cottages in its path, it is over 30,000 hectares. Timmins is in a state of emergency, today finally promises to be a little cooler, less winds, so hopefully the crews will get a handle on this nightmare. We have all been holding our breath, many evacuations also. It is the worst fire in Canada and the worst for a long time.
I do have some pics to post when things settle down, but for now this one put a smile on my face this morning. We are all praying for rain....

A Snapping Turtle...

This trip turned out to be amazing for my 'firsts' first bear, first cardinal and first turtle and more. There are a few lakes in the area which have large turtles in them. I have never been lucky enough to see one, but always on the lookout when we go down south. Both our highways that lead out of Timmins, one being toward Sudbury and the other toward North Bay, and closer to these areas is where the turtles are. We actually started home on highway 11, which passes Marten River, but due to a forest fire in the
area, and the road being closed, we turned back, went back to Field On, and took the 144 highway, (this is where I got the bear)
so now that I have you completely confused, I will show you the pics of the Snapping Turtle, I got on the side of the road near Marten River. He was huge, over a foot long and probably just as wide, he kept his eye on me as I talked to him, he was so cute, I just wanted to pet him, but hubby cautioned me against that. When I finished taking his pics, we shooed him back down into the ditch, hopefully he stayed there as it is a very busy highway.

A handsome Highland Bull..

While out for a drive in London, came upon a herd of Highland Cattle, this fellow hung around and posed for me, check them out in google, interesting breed, hardy originate in the highlands of Scotland.
They must get so hot in the summer.

Mr and Mrs Northern Cardinal...

In London, On

Can't be too fussy about backgrounds when you only have a few days to 'get the shot'..
taken in my daughters yard..we don't have these colorful birds in the north, so was quite the treat for me to get both of them this weekend.

A local Black Bear..

Caught this fellow walking along the highway, when we were almost home, so glad to see him and get a shot of him, we have lots of bears around the area, but I hadn`t been able to `catch`one !!

Muscovy Duck..

A face only a mother could love..lol
there were three of these fellows in a local park in London, On, quite tame, used to people. what a great area for photos, will be going down as often as we can.
We spent the last weekend there, as our daughter and family just moved there last month, so we popped down to see their house and we had such a great time with them.
We went for walks everynite with our cameras so
I have so many pics to post, also the camp opens today, so I will be busy taking pics out there too..
so should be back here in full force. :)

Horse in' around...

Got out yesterday for an hour or so to see my favorite fellows...these two were born last year, getting big now and so handsome..
I think they were happy to see me too..
Although this one is a bit over exposed, I still like the 'far away' look on his face..

Firsts for 2012...

First dandelion in my yard...and first Fly to get within range of my camera...while I was laying on the ground getting the dandelion...handheld with my macro, so he's not perfect! :)
