Northern (Yellow-shafted) Flicker..

While making supper, glanced out the window and to my delight, seen this fellow (a male) pecking in my backyard, first one I have seen this year... This pic shows the yellow near the tail best...there is a red-shafted one also, who have the red on the underside.

    Oh he's beautiful, and very nice photos! We have Northern Flickers here. The males are very flashy.

    Very nice! And you were able to grab your camera and manage to get some good photos. Good for you! So often when I see some critter out my window it is gone before I can get my camera ready.
